Compatible, NOT. The Dell Nightmare

I'm a small business owner in Delaware. I contacted Dell back in January to inquire about a system (cash drawer, credit card transaction hardware, inventory system software--the whole works). They were helpful, friendly, got back with me in record time, and assisted me in every way possible.

My one concern was that the system would not be compatible with my credit card company.

"Oh no!' my salesman assured me."This system is compatible with ANY company". The system was delivered, and prior to opening the boxes (call it a little alarm going off in my head) I called my credit card company, who told me that Dell was NOT compatible with their system. I called my salesperson who was now completely unavailable.

I left messages for him to call me--no calls were ever received. I e-mailed him, no reply.

I called customer service (a nightmare in itself, what with the screeching "hold" music and countless robotic voices directing me to who knows where) and finally got a human being to speak with.

I explained my situation and told her that I wanted to send the system back unopened (this was well within the 30 day time period). Even though the salesperson lied to me, I was responsible for the return shipping costs.

I marked RMA numbers on the boxes as per Dell instructions and sent them back via the original shipping company Dell used. Since then (the end of January) I have received telephone calls and bills demanding payment for a computer system that I never even opened.

I have spoken to at least 15 different Dell operators--NONE seem to communicate with anyone other than themselves. I have been told that my account is completely clear "All equipment is shown as returned--sorry for the inconvenience, just ignore those bills" only to receive a call two days later telling me that my account with Dell is 60 days delinquent.

This experience has been nothing short of nightmarish. Just today, I was on the telephone for over an hour with a customer service rep and at the end of the conversation, when I heard that chipper

"Thank you for choosing Dell", I just lost it.

I will NEVER buy any product from Dell, and I will continue to tell each and every person I see not to purchase Dell computers.

Yeah, Bill's right, you should have bought an Apple, my 4 year old G4 733 is excellent, every system I have had has worked flawlessly. Bill, I'd just like to point, she is a woman, not a man, lol.

I just contacted dell support via chat. After waiting a really long time the rep finally got to me. Between chats there were huge time breaks. She finally said allow her 3 minutes to get the instructions. After like 15minutes she comes back and tells me if i have any other questions regarding other hardware. i said no because i was waiting for my previous answer for my CD drive. Then she gave me my case number and ended the chat. I was life wtf? what was the point in that!? my question was not answered in ANY FORM!!!!!!! DELL SUPPORT SUCKS! Help yourself and do not buy a dell. As others say, when you buy a dell, then you enter hell!

I bought a dell laptop just over a year ago. actually my best friend Jim purchescd it with his amex card so he could get an employee discount for me. I also bought a on sight next day service warranty. What a joke this is i have thd three issues with my warranty, first was my dvd drive went out so they sent me a new one and told me to put it in myself. second was my hard drive crashed. i lost everything this was partly my fault for not having my computer backed up. So dell sends me a new hard drive (EMPTY) no operating software installed so they send me the opperating software but then tell me the only way it will work is if i down load the drivers for it. I call them and ask them how the #%$! am i supposed to download the drivers if my computer is inoperable! I asked if they had hard drives that were pre loaded. They told me yes but they could onlysend a pre loaded hard drive within the first 90 days of a warrenty. I run a business and was losing thousands of dollars of bussiness every day i was without my system. This went on for over two weeks who knows how long dell woluld have took to resolve this if at all. If it wasent for the fact my friend had the drivers and i had to take it to him to reload soft ware keep in mind i have next day on site service warranty. WHAT A JOKE!!! Jim my friend who originnally purchesed this system filed for a 70 dollar rebate right after this system was purched. When dealing with dell over my hard drive i asked yhem what happened to my rebate they refered me to their rebate center where someone told me that they had no record of my rebate ever being filed so we went thru some questions and i refiled it on the phone with him. He told me it would take about 6 to 8 weeks for processing. That came and went. Reciently i had a probblem with my keyboard so again they send me parts and tell me i have to install it my self. I asked them if they wont send someone to install software and they dont sened out someone to replace hard ware, I asked what i paid for when I purched nextday onsite service. You dont want to hear there answer. MY system is n ow just over a year old now and now they tell me that i am not eligible for my rebate.

Thanks god!!! 3 years ago I got Dell lap top for Christmas gift, the third day I had it, a friend of mine spilt water on it, ruined. Now I'm glad she did it, she didn't replace the computer but gave me the money to buy a new one, I added some more and bought a Mac, it's 3 years I have my MacBook Pro, and never shown any problem. I'm a happy Apple customer. :)
